Hyacinth Place Sold Out!
Mayor Michael Belsky congratulated the Highland Park Illinois Community Land Trust at the September 14th City Council meeting for closing out the affordable, environmentally sustainable townhome development at the corner of Hyacinth Place and Western Avenue. The goal was to develop housing that is affordable for teachers, City, park and library employees, retail staff, health care workers and others who serve our community on a daily basis. Despite the current housing market, we were able to reach our target population and the project has been a remarkable success. The project captured regional and national attention for its ability to be replicated in other communities. The 3 bedroom/2.5 bath townhomes are highly energy-efficient with a geo-thermal heating and cooling system, wind turbine energy generation, permeable paving stones that filter contaminants from the ground water supply, bamboo flooring and other “green” features expected to earn the townhomes a Silver Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification while also maintaining its affordability and proximity to transit.
